There are many types of protective films. Different thickness, adhesion,
quality of base film material all cause the differences of protective films.
After all, how many types are there? Today we are going to introduce
some common types of protective films.
I. Protective films can be divided into two kinds according to raw materials.
1, Divided according to base film materials
Divided according to base film materials, there are PE, PVC, PET, PP, TPU
and PU. TPU and PU are mainly used in production of shoes and Bra, so
we are not going to make detailed introduction here.
PE: It is polyethylene, which is widely used in protective film industry.
Its characteristics are mainly as follow. Low price, soft, good elongation and
environmental pollution free. Normally these products all passed EU ROHS
environmental pollution test. Its defect is bad weatherability. PE product is
not suitable for being used under high temperature. Normally application
temperature is within 60 ℃.
PVC: Polyviny chloride. Its characteristics are good softness and
weatherability (SPVC). Defect is not environmentally friendly. So many
international brands don’t use this material for their products. PVC is mainly
used for anti-static protection and wooden speaker surface protection.
PET: Polyester. Main characteristics such as good weather resistance to
high temperature of 100-150℃, good rigidity and evenness. Its defect is that
it can not be used to produce products with angles or corners.
PP: Polystyrene. Characteristics such as good softness, high temperature
resistance, environmentally friendly, which combined characteristics of PE and
PVC. It is mainly used in LCD industry.
2, Divided according to different adhesives
There are many kinds of adhesives, such as Acrylic (PMMA) adhesive, rubber,
silicone adhesive and so on.
Acrylic adhesive: Widely used. Good transparency. Stable. But it changes
due to the change of time and environment, for example, the longer the time,
the lower the adhesion.
Rubber: Mainly used in steel industry for producing black and white film,
blue film, metal stamping protective film and so on. Its main advantages are
fast applying and good evenness. Defects are lots of impurities and short shelf
Life.
Silicone adhesive: It is expensive but can resist high temperature. Defect
is that adhesive and film often separates when in use.
II. According to the structure, protective films currently on the market can be
divided into two kinds.
1, General process. Evenly coat glue on base film.
2, Co-extrusion technology. Mix glue particles and base material and co-extrude.
This film has no glue on surfaces but it is still self-adhesive, so there must be no
residue after removal.
III. General specification and colors of protective films.
Thickness: 0.03mm-0.15mm
Color: Transparent, blue, black, milky white, black&white and so on. Special
colors can be customized.
Width: Max 1650mm
Length: Max 1000m
Adhesion: 5-610g/50mm
